FLOURISH
NURTURE
RHS BADMINTON
Hosting another nationally significant
event in the region
Badminton’s horticultural and events heritage continues to evolve. The RHS
Badminton Flower Show builds on that legacy, bringing major visitor activity,
trade stands, volunteers and local collaboration to the Estate. With an
expected 120,000 visitors and an average spend of £69 per person
at the 300–350 trade stands, direct event spending is estimated at over
£8 million, with the total economic impact for the local area likely exceeding
£10 million when accommodation, hospitality and other visitor spending
are included.
This is Flourish in practice: managed enterprise that supports jobs,
spending and local visibility, and celebrates the rich horticultural heritage
of the Estate.
CASTLE BARN
Restoring a historic landmark
Built in 1748 and designed by Thomas Wright, Castle Barn is one of the
Estate’s most distinctive historic buildings. No longer suited to modern
farming, it now needs a new use if it is to endure. TThe Estate is investing in its
restoration and conversion to a wedding and events venue, securing a future
for the building while supporting specialist crafts, over 50 local jobs and an
estimated £4m per annum increased spending in the local economy,
attracting over 10,000 more visitors per annum to the area.
Like many of the Estate’s 161 designated heritage assets, its long-term
future depends on active use and ongoing investment in maintainence and
repair. This is Nurture in practice: protecting heritage through investment in
restoration and purposeful renewal.
